Plain English. We don't sell your data, and we collect the minimum we need to run the site.

Who we are

BestDIYMiniSplits.com is an independent reader-supported website that publishes buying guides, sizing tools, and DIY installation content for ductless mini split systems. We are not affiliated with any manufacturer or HVAC contractor.

What we collect

When you use the BTU calculator

Nothing personal. The sizing calculator runs entirely in your browser — your room size, climate, and other inputs are never transmitted to our server or stored anywhere we can access.

When you subscribe to the DIY checklist

We collect only your email address. We use this to deliver the checklist PDF and occasional (no more than 2–3 per month) emails with new guides, seasonal deals, and DIY tips. You can unsubscribe in one click from any email. We do not collect your name, phone number, or address.

Automatic analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and tools are most useful to readers. GA4 collects anonymized usage data (page views, session duration, approximate region) and does not collect personally identifying information. You can opt out at any time using a browser extension such as the official Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on, or by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser. If we later switch to a privacy-respecting alternative (Plausible, Fathom, or similar), this page will be updated.

Cookies

We do not set any tracking cookies. If we embed a third-party video or tool in the future, that embed may set its own cookies under its own policy — we will note that clearly when it happens.

Affiliate links

This site currently has no affiliate relationships and earns nothing from outbound product links.

How we store your data

Newsletter signups are processed through Formspree, a third-party form handler, and delivered to a mailing list we manage with an industry-standard email service provider (e.g. ConvertKit, Mailchimp, or Buttondown). Both providers have their own privacy policies governing how they handle the data. We never export, sell, rent, or share your email with any third party, and you can request deletion at any time by replying to any newsletter or emailing privacy@bestdiyminisplits.com.

Your rights

Access: You can request a copy of what we have on file (just your email, basically).
Deletion: You can ask us to delete your record — unsubscribing from the newsletter does this automatically.
Correction: Email us if your address changes and you'd like to keep getting the checklist follow-ups.
California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal info we have, to request deletion, and to opt out of any sale of personal info (we do not sell personal info).
EU / UK residents (GDPR): The same rights above, plus the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for adults researching HVAC purchases for their home. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Updates to this policy

If we materially change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page, bump the "Last updated" date at the top, and email current subscribers.
